New outboard

by NickT » 14 Dec 2016, 19:45

Does anyone have a recommendation for a new outboard please?

i'm looking for either a 115 or 140 to fit to my Fletcher 19 Sports Cruiser.

Max weight it can take is 185kg (existing engine weight).

I have seen a rather tired Suzuki 140 but I think it has had a hard life as the prop has been ground down for some reason and the leg is severely scuffed etc.

It may be best to have a new motor that will have a long life ahead of it even though I will pay much more.

Off to the London boat show in January and am hoping that there will be some offers that tempt me!

Nick

I don't blame you for getting a bigger engine but your boat does go very well on the 75 you have on her. Judging by how my 19 GTS goes with the 135 hp inboard I would tryu and get a little more than a 115 on her. Most 115's are detuned 150s.

Do you want second hand 2 stroke or the more quiet and economical 4 stroke.

New ones are so expensive that is the problem. You can probably buy a whole setup with an old 150 ish on for less than the new price of a 4 stroke

Nick

If this isn't a scam it would be excellent

Hi Dennis

Thanks for your suggestions.

I am looking at a 140 Suzuki Df140 which is up for £3300.

It has 480 hrs on the clock and is 2003 vintage.

Was quite keen on it until I zoomed into the photos and saw that the prop had been ground down and the leg severely scuffed.

This implies a well worn engine and my interest waned at that point.

I would like a 4 stroke engine as I don't want to worry about fuel consumption.

On another note are you going to the Brixham rally next year?

I was indeed going to go to the Rally but I was under the impression they were thinking of changing the venue to Wales or somewhere else. I will keep an eye on the website

Hi Dennis,

Its Brixham again this year.

Reason being is that everything is in place to organise it and whilst John and Anthony looked elsewhere the logistics of it didn't work.

I've booked!
