Mind that Switch

by Bigplumbs » 25 Jul 2016, 06:18

So a little story that might help others:

Went out for the weekend in our 19 foot Fletcher GTS Sports Cruiser to woodbridge marina to stay for one night. Thought we would take our little dog for the first time. Lovely day and it is only about 6 miles up river from our mooring. As it was flat calm had a little speed about out of the mouth of the river on the sea and then headed up river for the tide at Woodbridge on the Deben.

Noticed as we came over the bar the engine coughed (Mercruiser 3 ltr) carried on a bit at 6 knots and every time I increased throttle she coughed. I carried on slowly and found that every time I touched the power trim the engine almost died and the chart plotter switched off. As this was our first stay overnight I did not want to miss this little outing so I continued at slow speed as it was now further to turn back than it was to proceed. I also noticed that my voltage gauge was fluctuating quite a lot. Got to the marina moored up and switched off. I then thought I would go for a restart but found I had no electrical power at all. Looked around at the battery isolation switch which is the normal red type and found that it was off.

We can only conclude that when the little dog was trying to jump on the seat etc it stood on the end of the switch and switched it off.

Switched the switch back on again and all is now back to normal and working well. We had a lovely time at Woodbridge
