Moorings in Soton...

by Ianfs » 03 May 2016, 13:18

A few conversations going on about Kemps Quay and its tidal aspects.

Looks like a great place, I'm guessing that some of the pontoons dry out and the more expensive ones mid river are OK, so similar to Eastlands at the top of the Hamble?

I think it is only the outer pontoon that stays afloat. The closer in you get the cheaper, but the narrower the tidal window

Thanks Colin, just looked at a map of their mooring and see what you mean.

Shamrock Quay do like a summer trailer package,
Boat is placed in the Water Friday - Monday then kept on trailer during the week, - May be worth asking about

That's about a 5hr window. I did read that if you return at low tide though, you can moor onto a deep water pontoon and they'll put her back for you. Not bad, good service.

That sounds about right although we did come back once and ran aground about 2m short of the pontoon

Ian. Yep not great but better than I have at Trafalgar . And I have to launch and recover. Just hope the drive on dock works. Think the rollers will need some work and need to get the set up right.
As mentioned elsewhere. Everything boaty is step by step. 3.8m zodiac to 4.5m Ranieri on trailer to 6.1m Mariah on trailer to first mooring. More money each time. It's feeling expensive relatively speaking now.

Ian. I think they charge to tow your boat back to the pontoon. I'll have to double check that one though
