My previous boat

by annageek » 03 May 2016, 21:49

For the first time in my life, I have a 'previous' boat.

3 and a bit years of brilliant fun and fantastic memories. Today is a sad day!

The worst thing about it is the chap who bought her (from the Eastbourne area) is putting her on a mooring, and the first things he's going to do is slobber anti foul paint all over her bottom!!!!! AAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!! I spent 5 weekends of my life getting rid of that, and now it's going to be back on it a matter of a few minutes!!

Oh well... I'm sure she'll bring hours of fun to her new owner.

Incidentally, I'm surprised, but the £7500 was perhaps a little low of an asking price (she went for a little less than asking, but it was only a little less) but I have SO much interest. At least 10 people wanted to come and view, and many people making offers in excess of 7k on hearing that I'd already provisionally sold her... needless to say I honoured my agreement with the chap who took her. In honesty, with a bit more patience, I think an asking price of 8.5k would have yielded a return in the high 7k's within a couple of weeks, and perhaps the low 8k's after a month or so. I'm not disappointed in the least though - in my view, everyone's a winner, as we've got a fair price, and the buyer has got a great boat at a good price.

If anyone's interested - here is the info sheet I put together for all serious sounding enquiries, and in my opinion, this is what sold her, as every offer I received, came after this info sheet was sent over. Essentially, what I tried to do was point out all the BAD points, as in my view, honesty is the best policy (and saves a lot of wasted time/disappointment for everyone): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7m23zzDELghVjlHNDV1ckN0QWc

Anyway, the sale was agreed within 36 hours of the advert going live on eBay, and the money was in my account and the boat was being towed away just 18 hours later. Must have been doing something right!

Oh, and on the point of brokers - Southampton Dry Stack have no penalties if you manage a DIY sale - I was pretty sure that was the agreement before people pointed it out on here, but checked with them and they confirmed that all was OK.

Oh, and one last thing - keep an eye on any new announcements coming from SDS this Friday - something quite interesting will be revealed, but I've been sworn to secrecy!

Hi Anna,

Yes you probably could have achieved a higher price but a bird in the hand applies...

Your information sheet is incredibly detailed - I'm afraid I would probably argue that in the time it took to write it I could have gone and earnt some money to make up for the fact that I wouldn't have the patience to write one in the first place!

I did consider making you an offer as the boat has been very well maintained by you.

Couldn't persuade the boss though!

Good luck with your new boat.

In fairness, the info sheet was a bit of an accident. It was an email that turned into an essay, which turned into an info sheet. The best thing is that it's allowed me to document little bits of the boat that I otherwise wouldn't have done, which will be nice to look back on in the future.

Also, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have put it together had Hantu Biru not been stuck in the marina with a dicky engine! Never mind.

Incidentally, things are looking on the up with HB, as although the current inboard is kaput, a new solution may be on its way!

Yes, they said they were on it, glad they've come good!

Regarding the sale, it begs the question, why couldn't the broker have had all those buyers?

Oh and one other thing, you may or may not have got more money, its always a worry when you think you've undervalued something, on the other hand however a higher asking price might have meant that you still had her at Christmas.

Very well done Anna on the sale. I hope the new owner has as much fun as you did with her and that your engine situation is soon sorted out.

That is interesting. I wonder if the new owners did not like the boat or the experience for some reason or if they just bought it to make a few quid

After a quick profit I suspect. With the current market they may well be disappointed.

As someone looking there is no way I'd pay his asking price against what Ive seen elsewhere but as you all know I won't pay the asking price for whats left on the market. One broker told me to stop looking as only the dregs and chances are left and I should come back in September when it hots up again. May be he is one of them.

I would be suspicious of that Ebay advert, it is poorly cut and paste from Annas advert with no information added by the "new" owner.

It could well be a scam advert although they usually choose an expensive boat and advertise it cheap.
