Don't mention liveaboard! I've given more than idle thought to getting something a bit bigger and doing just that. I keep telling myself to stop dreaming, but it's hard ya know

We've done it before...4 years on a Princess 37S.....no problem at all.....and I have friends who live on their boat and are coming up to retirement...and...the council will pay their mooring fee..!! Saves giving them a house I spose....top plan..

Funny you talk about liveaboard's. This was seriously discussed and I mean seriously, at the Southampton Boat show after we had looked over some of the bigger Sunseeker's and Princess's. Even to the point of mooring and upkeep compared to a house, but a £600,000 boat depreciates rapidly, a house tends not to, or hasn't over the last several hundred years.....no more discussion! :?

When I retire who cares about depreciation of the boat. I'm out of it. Kids inheritance? Little buggers can earn their own dough. Be good for them, had it way too easy until now the spoilt little bastards.

I went through that period about 20yrs ago and continued for a while, until 8yrs ago a Grandchild was conceived, I told my daughter off and said I was too young to have grandchildren, her mother thought it was a very bad idea and said at her age grandchildren were not an option. It didn't work!!

Then my father's legacy, which my mother was in control of and my father in laws legacy kicked in. The rest of our children gradually left home and unfortunately met absolutely delightful partners.......bugger, why oh why could they have not have been awful, rude, insulting, conniving, money grabbing partners? :?

They are all exceptionally loving people, who my father would have been delighted to have shared his life with and unfortunately who my father in law also loves. Consequently, my wife and I love them all and because they are struggling through life at their moment, as we did, but who are not asking for anything, we feel that when the time comes, maybe they can have an easier life.

Why am I telling you all this? I don't know, but if you have teenage, or younger children it might make you think a tad first. If, on the other hand they turn out to be genius's or they rule the world.........who care's eh?

We have been through the further education funding , car buying and weddings with both of our two daughters.
We have one granddaughter of 19 months age and another on the way.
Cars are a dead loss . But we have no hesitation in 'investing' in the boat.
Shares lost something like 5 to 10% today . I don't think the boat lost anything.

I'll be leaving 3 properties to my 3 kids. Including a beach villa in Candidasa Bali. The boat and cash is mine. I didn't inherit anything. Its nuts. The government taxes you 100% of your life's earnings within 2.5 generations. You cannot create a legacy, I can ensure they're on the property ladder the rest is up to them. I am not raising them to be bloody useless. 20 and if they aren't out the door I've failed. One down, two to go
