Another weekend, more strong winds

by ian h » 11 Oct 2015, 18:39

Got out Saturday . Was a bit foggy but Southampton water was nice and calm.

I had my engineer onboard as was concrened that the engine temps were showing a little high,

Was intresting to see all the info from the computer as we did 2 full runs up and down Southampton water,

Temps all were all fine at max 87C ,

Need to send props back to Steel developments as they are not performing, S.Be doing 48 knots but only getting 43 knots,

Fuel consumption was intresting to, Up to 35 knots it was using 1 litre per hour per knot per engine,

I.E at 35 knot each engine was usuing 35 litres an hour, BUT when went to WOT this went up to 58 litres per engine per hour or put it another way 116 litres per hour total :o

Found that the most econimical speed is around 30 knots

I was trying to find your boat in Members boats but couldn't see it!

Is it petrol or diesel? I remember seeing Volvo legs so must be Volvo engines but which ones do you have?

It'd be a very enjoyable hour though :P

That's a very useful and interesting piece of information Ian.

25 Galls and hour, 36 foot boat, 48 knots, wow!

Yep, forecast completely wrong.

Went down to the boat yesterday and ended up emptying out and taking home all of the cushions etc for the winter. Here's looking forwards to next year.

didn't bother looking much past the 10 pm news forecast, Thurs & Friday both hinted at semi rubbish days and both were beautiful up here (flip flop dog walking weather) ABSOLUTELY sick of wrong forecasts this year. Sat was rubbish up here as forecast but with no wind but Sunday was wall to wall sunshine very little wind. in shelter it was 20-23 deg. even the car as 20 deg. Always easy to blame the forecaster (guesser) but it was the same last weekend either would of made a great day final out. only made worse by the fact I decided to start winter decorating on a sunny day instead.

I think next year I won't be so eager to look at only the BBC forecasts unless it proves much more accurate now they've dropped Met office as a supplier.

Exactly the same as we ended up doing. Cushions etc all at home now, although we will be leaving the boat afloat for the winter, we wont be sleeping aboard again until next season.

All down to the great design of the boat. To me this is where the Hunton scores over the Windy of similar size, which suffers from a lower top end.

BUT there is a down side for this speed. The boat does not sit at anchor that well, Bit of a roll in anything but flat calm sea
