Stainless Duoprop removal

Removal of a single prop is easy enough, has anybody removed Stainless Duoprop (F series) on a Volvo Penta

Can you d-i-y this, or is this into realms of specialist tools.

I have Stainless Duo props and there is a tool required, Have a look on Keyparts for idea.

And a good quality Torque wrench. You do not want them falling off

Anybody have a tech sheet or similar to give process ... in particular torque settings.

Merc had all this in the engine/drive handbook, but in Volvo handbook it says to see ‘maintenance & service manual’

If I can change duoprops it can't be difficult.
The prop removal tool is useful .......... the leverage it allows you seems just right .

I appreciate the removal tool is ideally required for the ‘front ‘ prop ....I.e prop nearest bow.

If you change them ... what torque do you use when refitting ?

I don't use a torque wrench .

Not sure how you would use a torque wrench with the forward prop . Its special nut is self locking and needs to be done up tight so there is no play in the prop along the direction of the shaft.

The rear prop is first secured with the cone using the bar of the tool in the slots in the cone. It is then locked off. I guess you could use a torque wrench on the locking bolt but I just do it tight using the tool.


(PS I do own a torque wrench)

No cone on DPS set.
It’s usual for nuts to have a torque setting, as different people will define .. ‘ its tight’ with totally different load.

Maybe it’s unimportant ... but read on another forum of twin props coming loose and the rear prop being lost.
