Monterey

Monterey 194FS

by argonaut » 27 Apr 2015, 16:31

First off you won't find the 194 in the current catalogue ... they renamed it the 204

Bought this from Hannah Boats in Northern Ireland.
Monterey are an extremely well built boat ... and certainly a significant step up from many of the more frequent names you find in the water, however the UK dealer ceased trading and there is no longer a formal dealer for UK ........... although Hannah boats can sort out spares etc.

A pity as they provide a lot of boat for you money.

I was introduced to Monterey by Mike Dovey from, Wakeboard Towers UK ... and went to test drive a 224 he knew for sale, but it was too big for me, I need to tow to launch site and that means 21' is max length I want to tow .. and I opted instead for the 194 FS.
This has a hull of 19'4" (6m) and with the bathing platform takes overall length to 12' 7"
It has a wide beam of 8'4" ... and with the 220hp V6 a dry weight of 1406Kg

If you are thinking of towing be warned, this will take you over into the larger Tow cars being 2.2T on a twin axle trailer.

The boat handles very well, with no bow rise, comes on plane very flat, and although you can get a V8, the V6 MPI has stacks of power ........... my use is all about inshore watersports .......... so it has a few extras installed:

High Five prop 21" pitch - trialled several other variants, but High Five still the best - amazing holseshot

Monster MTK Tower - not cheap, but I wanted a Tower that complimented the hull ... some look like old scaffolding, and needed it to be able to fold flat for storage in the boat shed. Supplied and fitted by http://www.wakeboardtower.co.uk/

Ridesteady - amazing improvement in the boat, full GPS cruise control ........ if you do Towed watersports then you want to fit this. I wrote up my fitting project : viewtopic.php?f=55&t=259

SeaDeck - this made a big difference to the bathing platform and upper transom area, great non-slip finish for board sports. (pic below) ans meant I could kit up on SkySki without flying off the back of the boat.

Custom carpets - installed a full set
