Winter Projects and Maintenance

by BruceK » 07 Dec 2016, 14:36

Ya know it's a forum slow day and Sprocker is going to tire with me getting so excited on his behalf. Anyway, surely you all have winter projects to be getting on with?

One of mine is to replace all cockpit vinyls. Unfortunately I am completely stumped as how to dissasemble the forward bench seat as I cannon locate a single fixing point even though I know it is there and has at least 4. It's doing my head in.

I know your pain Bruce, I did my cabin last year and finding some of the hidden securing screws was somewhat challenging and a little frustrating at times.
I'm considering doing my head lining at some stage, think I've sourced some material to make it achievable so we'all see...
And I obviously will have to sort the engine issue at some point, but that will wait until it warms up a little!

yes got loads of things to do, severe lack of funds and motivation are out weighing the plenty of time I have. It will be the usual case of rushing everything in March & April as I always do assuming I have some money incoming. Biggest problem is the canopy I need to invest in, at £2k its definitely not on the horizon so I need to do design & make that one myself, have the funds reserved but not sure on starting it, at the moment its looking more like a for sale notice being made than a list of jobs to do for 2017. hope it doesn't come to that though .

I know what you mean Bruce.

BB, try Nicky's sail clinic in Brighton, they are surprisingly good value and don't just make sails.

My Winter project is to make sure the old boat engine is working properly, then spruce her up for sale. Then brace myself for my family coming down for Christmas, omg 3 grandsons too....wow!

Then try to find a Sunseeker Portofino 48 for about £40k.....

Thanks Ian, not so much a case of finding a reasonable cover maker but more of finding the will power to open ones wallet  I have a neighbour with the required industrial sewing machines and experience to make the cover but just doesnt understand the concept, Ive a slightly younger partner who 'wants the cover made asap' and does have the experience to use the sewing machine but doesnt want to be held responsible for getting it wrong. Between the 3 of us I should as 'project lead' be able to instruct the 2 old dears into getting it right - HA HA HA. the Stainless work is similar, the other neighbour is a Stainless fabricator but in a food factory and we have a local Stainless Mill to supply the tubing and is just waiting a design. the design is a problem - it seems sports fishers are not the most usual thing to build a camping cover frame for. Many Google search struggles to bring up a useful config or examples of other covers to copy.

The more it drags on the more Im determined to do it but the more it drags on the more it looks like it just wont work out and off to a cover maker it will be. Remember the cover maker from when the forum was SB&R snuggtops? - he is localish too so may take a trip over there at some point.
