34 m ile round trip in a 3.4 m rib

by Bigplumbs » 08 Sep 2016, 06:47

Not sure if this was wise or not but went out in my little 3.4 m rib today launching at the River Deben. It was so nice I poked my nose over the bar and radioed a friend in his 31 foot yacht and followed him on a 34 mile round trip off shore to the ore. Conditions were flat calm on the way across but roughed up on the way back. Good thing was I only used 6 litres of petrol on the whole trip on the little 15 hp 4 stroke

Looks like fun to me. All went well and I'm sure your mate would have taken you on board if necessary for calming drinks and nourishment :D

I agree with Colin. What a great idea.

theres a lot to be said for throwing in the towel on big boats trailed or stacked and buying a little rib like that, esp living by the sea and wanting n easy life/quick trip out etc. or having a motor home etc. to tug it with. jealous :D

I use my little tender extensively in that manner. Cruise to and anchorage and then the ribs come out. Powerful enough to tow some water toys about too.

:D :D

So rather than upsizing I should save my money and buy a tender that will fit in the boot

What a great idea :D

Ahh, but there is nothing better than finishing a day on the toys and grabbing a nice hot shower and settling down at the table for a feast prepared by a doting First Officer before winding down to some light music, wine and a slow dance to set the evening mood top side while the kids get sent to their cabins to watch the latest netflix film on mobile broadband. No, the two compliment each other well and ends better. :D

Bruce ...................... You are so right............. What size engine is on the centre seat rib in the picture

and to Colin and all the others. You need Both or even as many boats as you can afford and store :)

What I would say is the little rib which I have only had about 3 weeks has been used 6 times and each time I have had a blast for minimal effort and minimal cost

I paid £2400 for her and recon I have already had £1000 of value.

All I need for her is a name I was thinking of 'Little Floater'

I miss my old 3.8m zodiac classic. We had an 18hp 2 stroke Tohatsu on the back. Great engine. Loads of fun pulling the kids on donuts and knee boards. Not sure I would swap my Mariah back for her, but if I had the space would have been nice to have both.
