Too many switches

by strickers » 03 Sep 2016, 19:59

Sorry to keep asking daft questions...but I have another.

My boat is a Ocqueteau 715, Volvo penta engine with two batteries.

There are 4 switches on the side of the engine, one says house and one says start....anyone know what the other two switches are for?

at a guess with two batteries the positions will be.... one for all off, two for battery 1 (house),three battery 2 (cranking starter) and position 4 both batteries on for charging

i can't answer this one directly, pictures do help though...
One thing i have learnt though, is that some boats have lots of switches and wiring, you'll often find that some parts are completely redundant!!..? Worth chasing with a voltmeter with different switches / ignition circuits made? Mine has about 4 switches on the dash that do nothing at all, seems after investigation they were built in as optional extras for the owner to use as necessary.
Don't apologise for asking questions, that's what forums are for... :)

Hi strickers

Are there 4 separate switches or a twist 4 position switch? Are you able to post a picture?

I think as already said, if the other 2 are not marked they may be redundant.
