New Toy for one man operation

by Bigplumbs » 21 Aug 2016, 18:09

So I am being made redundant at the tender age of 54 and thought I might (If I like it) retire. When I want to go boating on occasion I cannot always find a crew and none of my boats excluding the 3 hp SIB can be managed by me alone. So I went and bought this little beauty which should Zip along and can also be used as a tender to my Sports Cruiser if I am lucky enough to secure a fairways mooring which is up the river somewhat.

Hopefully the little 15 hp four stroke will push her along at about 20 - 24 mph. I also picked it up only 8 miles from my house for a good price. Most of the other ones I have seen have been in Devon which is 5 hours away and have been more than I paid for this.

It is a 3.4 m rib by the way with a fiberglass floor valiant D340 with Mariner 15 hp 4 stroke

Now I need a name for her

I know your feeling about crew! I have the same and although I could if I wanted to go alone, I much prefer to share adventures. :) Why so many Fletchers though lol? (This is even me saying that!)

I know what you mean about going alone and it is not my preference but sometimes the weather etc seems to good to miss. Our local river the Deben is a good river for a small boat and also this will be nice to trailer to some locations with small slipways etc. Got to watch the wheels on the trailer though as they are very small and the tyres will get quite warm at any sort of speed and distance.

Why so many Fletchers ................................... ?????????? Is there any other speed boat to have if you are British :) :). To be honest 2 of the Fletchers are sort of my Brothers but I bought them and look after them for him. I just love Fletchers

Took her out today and she goes well. I am getting 19 Knots out of her. I would like a little more. I wonder where there migh be a nice 25 hp motor with PTT

Took her out again today on my own. Super easy to launch and recover. Had great fun buzzing around. I have fitted a little Garmin Striker 4 to her which helps with depth, Speed and waypoints if needed. Only £118 incl Transducer.

The best thing about this little boat apart from the ease of use on your own is the fact that after whipping about for about 3 hours I only used about 4 ltrs of petrol. Not bad I recon
