Mixed fortunes sort of day outt

Made a late call to go out today with a plan to be at the needles to see the power boats coming back

Well we got the boat in the water but the battery was flat. No problem, attached the booster pack and pop. That decided to did as well

No problem, used the one at Saxon and broom, she fired up a treat. The guys had a spare battery so we put that in the boat and headed for the Needles. Great run in lovely conditions. Anchored up for lunch and soaked up some sun when we spotted a copter escorting the first pb. Turned the key and, nothing, zilch, Nada. Bugger, quick battery swap and of we went to watch a few blasting past. Anyway decide to head for home to find out sounder was not registering. Hey ho. Back to base, removed the plastic bag that was caught round the sender, washed up and removed the battery. New one on order.

Must get on with the addition of a second battery [url][/url]

Lovely day out though, can't as that we'll get many more this year.

What a day that was. After staying on board overnight I went out at 8:30 to watch the powerboats take off down the Solent and then came back in to pick up my dad. Then we set off out to the needles in flat calm conditions before heading into Yarmouth for lunch. We then left Yarmouth at 2pm to head back to Mercury to catch the rising tide to put the boat on the trailer. Must have passed you Colin at some point?

Don't you just love days like that, no reason for it!
Oh well, at least you got out and had a nice day, as we saw, the conditions were great and makes it all worth while!
Was it busy down by the needles? Still haven't got down there on this boat!

James, we would have been anchored up in Alum bay while you were in Yarmouth.

Shibbs, There were probably 15 out so boats anchored up. Loads of room.

Quite a few more drifting about waiting for things to happen.

I think we got there about 2:15 and got going just after 3.

I must admit that was the nearest we have come to making use of sea start. At least we were safely at anchor

Must admit seeing James photos of fbook made me quite jealous of those who managed to get out today.

Colin if it's any consolation for the last year perhaps more I have to use a booster pack to start my boat every single time.

I ended up buying the exact same one the guys use at Saxon as I used theirs so much I thought I may as well by one. Powerful kit it never fails to start the boat.

I've been waiting about 2 months to have my new battery charger installed and it seems the one i have bought now needs modifying to suit.

I've been relying on a solar panel this year as I do not have shore power. Worked ok last year but I think the battery is shot. It is 6 years old after all.

A second battery should do the trick but I may invest in a better booster as well. What make and model did you buy?

I saw one being used multiple times to start a bike at a show. Small enough to fit in a glove box and will also charge a phone etc.

Interesting but of kit. I wonder how it supplies the grunt to start a big marine motor. Worth some research.

I always leave my battery disconnected when the boat is stored. Also rather than that expensive start kit just have a smaller spare battery that you keep charged at home and take with you when you go out

Thanks to Mark we have a fabulous twin battery set-up (needed to power James' lighting fantasy!), however this has reminded me to re-read the VSR switching instructions so I know how to switch across if necessary.
