Recommendation for fuel transfer pump

by NickT » 04 Oct 2016, 13:28

+1 for a jiggle tube.

Just bought one and now I don't have to bend over the side of the boat with a 10kg weight of fuel while trying to fit the spout in the filler.

Best purchase on boat for a while!

I've been following this thread for a while. I have a jiggle syphon and a inline fuel pump onboard in a locker from the PO. God knows why though. The last post broke my silence. What you moaning about 10kg?! If the PO of my boat did indeed use these devices he must have been one hefty bugger doing a ton of diesel each throw.

Hi Bruce,

10Kg at full arms-length whilst leaning over a windscreen to get to a filler tube halfway down the freeboard on a Fletcher Sports Cruiser without tipping half of it into the Hamble is tricky.

You can come and fill my boat up with 8 cans full if you think it's that easy! :D

Siphons don't work up hill ....... would be good to know of a pump that will transfer fuel to my boat when it is on trailer ... I use 20L containers ... but they are heavy to hold above your shoulders .. and the filler spouts air lock as they are emptying so flow rate is slow.
Can't use a funnel as filler is on vertical surface, tried the flexy spout funnels ... no good as you can't hold that upright at same time as holding 20 L can.

My jerry cans have an air release valve in them so they empty really quickly and smoothly. I had a quick look for a link but could not find one. Will post if I find it. Highly recommend them.

I'm lucky my filler cap is on the stern accessible from my swim platform. Still have to lean over a bit but it sounds much easier than you have to put up with.

 It was a tongue in cheek comment. Because the Formula is mostly a petrol powered boat the diesel conversion leaves her with huge tanks for her size. What I was alluding to was is the ability to top up your tanks from a jerry can is a nice problem to have.

Thanks for pic of the article ....
I did look at the pumps and not suitable or Petrol

There are petrol pumps ... but flowrate is too slow (engine fuel pumps)
