Classic Ebay top 5 remarks

I also agree, the original advert was good, but I think there are some very valid points from Bruce. ( are you a salesman by trade by my chance? :D )
I think to be honest Betty, that boat will sell no problem, it's a cracking looking boat that's clearly been loved and well looked after, the right person will see it and snap your arm off for it. Just one of those things with boats, it may take time until that right person comes along.
Good luck though. I'm still trying to sell a car, and whilst reasonably priced, it just hasn't gone, very frustrating!!

I've tried to be silent on this topic only because recently the used boat market has blown me away because of the vast age differential of similar sized boats at the same asking prices. It has proved I am useless and know nothing about the market any more.

However, reading Bruce's comments and then looking at your ad Ian, I would throw in a couple of pence and say that your Ebay ad reads as if you were selling a piece of furniture or a bike or a car, something which is a necessity rather than a dream. Its extremely honest and well written and would certainly result in gaining 100% Positive feedback. Secondly, your boat against others is very well priced, there are a couple of 2003/04 at the same price and another with the bigger 4.3 engine so yours is very well priced.

Reading both Bruce's style of ad and then yours, I would say there is not much in it with the honesty factor either. He is talking about the fun you have had with it, she has been serviced to within an inch of her life and there are certain practicalities like the graphics.

So for me, I think he is absolutely right, you are selling to a first time boater with a family maybe and you are selling an honest dream. I like to see a boat well presented in an ad, i.e. take her to a river or lake and get some shots, talk about the trailer and how easy it is to service and move around and that its all ready to go. If it were me I might just chuck in the RNLI connection, it adds a little weight to the credence and provenance of Betty.

However, all things short and sweet, no lingering procrastinating sentences.

thanks all, some good point esp Bruce thanks for the long sales advise, not wasted or on deaf ears. I do pride myself on being somewhat of a writer both for pleasure and (actually do) for business so I understand where your coming from on the pitch and whats in or not in the ad. Ebay always makes me laugh on what people sell and the wording or lack there of so I thought I was doing quite well. Probably in my mind Ive written it ASAP for quick sell and not taken a step back and really thought about the right audiance just concentrating on avoiding tyre kickers and scrap dealers which have taken most interest so far.. I think it would certainly be a one off advert, like Ian, having trawled through brokers ad's recently even they dont make an effort to word the dream let alone private ad's.

I'll dig out some old pics to show the dream and re list the ad ASAP, (AKA pull your finger out Ian) with some new fluffy points etc..

Watch this space :D
