Winterising

I am pretty sure sea water freezes at a lower temp than brakish water Colin. The higher the salt content the lower the freezing point.

That's what I said!

freezing temp is higher than it would be on a pure salt water berth

Same meaning different words.

I think once we hear back from Stevie about the maintenance levels etc we can give him a more accurate account of which bits to winterise. :)

A boat in the water is better protected from frost than a boat ashore.

Sounds like you have electricity at the mooring so you may use a tube heater in the engine bay on a thermostat .
Insulation around and over the engine and stuff the air intakes with insulation may help.

Drain off all domestic water as the domestic plumbing is perhaps the thing most vulnerable to damage

Pour some antifreeze in the engine cooling raw water .

I am not much in favour of running engines every couple of weeks over the winter . Unless you are taking the boat for a run it causes more harm than good.

A canal or marina may freeze due to there being no flow . I have had 4 inches of ice around the boat a fresh water marina a few years a go (Nottinghamshire). No damage to the boat. recent winters hardly anything more than very thin ice on the surface of the water.

what to do with fresh water systems? I have a large tank shower and sink with cold tap, no drain point no access to the tank under floor. should I add something or just pump it all out as best I can?

We just pump it out till it's empty of water.

No sweat. I'm waiting on having a pacemaker installed so I know how you feel. Mind you I've been waiting nearly a year why they play silly buggers with my medication first

Have some great pictures of myself as a kid walking on the frozen water of Swansea bay ........... may not be common but it does happen, and we are pretty far South.
