2 Weeks Holiday on the boat

by MartynG » 26 Jun 2016, 08:48

The chief officer and I are off on a two week boating holiday starting 2 July. :D :D
Starting from out home base in Farndon on the River Trent , out of the Humber and to Wells next the sea in Norfolk, and back . Stopping off at various places on the way it's more about the journey rather than the destination. We did the same route last year and it went well.. The back up plan in case of adverse sea conditions involves inland waterways.
This time we will be joined by a Sealine F36 and a Broom 38. The Broom is ashore after hitting an underwater object a the end of May and cracking the gearbox bellhousing . The parts are almost with the boat, which is leaving it a bit last minute but they hope to be ready in time. The Sealine F36 is new last year to her current owners who are our good friends. It will be a first trip East of Trent Falls in their case.
I have obtained the latest available chart for the Upper Humber. The channel changes frequently and fresh charts are published every two months. I believe its the most frequently surveyed stretch of water in the UK. The navigation buoy positions are published freely by ABP so I have updated those on my chart plotter.
This weekend continues with engine checks and cleaning in preparation for the voyage.

Sounds fab. Hope you have a great time.

Also hope you manage a wifi or phone signal at some stage for lots of pics and anecdotes. :)

Make sure you pop into the River Deben The Marina at Woodbridge is a good place to stay over but you will have to get the tide right

I intend to post some pictures although it might be a little patchy depending on wifi.
We had quite good sunny weather last year (although the sea was lumpy).
Regardless of the weather we intend to have a good holiday . I just hope for light winds without ant North or East in them .

Here's a pic of us taken from our friends boat , from last years main holiday trip - leaving Grimsby at dawn. At this point the sea was smooth .

I think we do need some luck with the weather for the holiday. (The chief officer wants us to be in Spain or Italy or somewhere that has a real summer but she also wants me to keep going to work another 9 years ).

The parts to fix my friends Broom have arrived and ,he hopes, will be fitted tomorrow. So the hope of them joining us on holiday remains a possibility.
But his almost brand new 5hp Honda outboard went for its first service after being a month old and only a few hours run and it apparently needs a new cylinder head !!!  I think Honda should give him a full refund or a new outboard rather than fix it.

What's up with the cylinder head? Did it warp?
