I am very very confused about the weather this weekend. I'm even more confused about the weather we have had despite the fact that it's October and we were advised 2 months ago that an Indian summer was due .

I have to say that I don't understand forecasts and how they are made, but I do think that some of them are made to our advantage and that some might not be as accurate as we might think. Some, on the other hand are made for us to think the worse and then when its not as bad we feel good.

But then when we see surface pressures from the Met Office for Saturday with Isobars so far apart, wind speeds should be low .............

You would then think that Ed's schematic with pale green in the Solent and winds of ENE, which are quite important in the Solent area would, although wind speeds are 16--20mph would give wave heights of 1m or less or at least a nasty chop. But then if you drill down into it there are sites predicting this, which make a lot of sense, local more condensed low pressures.............

If I lived in the Solent area, it would definitely be a poke my head out and wait and see!

Out Saturday doing some testing with my engineer. .

At the boat show had a long chat with the guys from Sant Carles Marina,

Tempted to move the boat to Spain, A BIG saving on marina costs and much better weather,

Even after airfares it would still be cheaper than keeping the boat in the Solent

Sounds like a done deal.. If that was the case for me, I'd certainly be seriously considering it, even just for a few years for a bit of a change of scenery.
Out of interest, how many years would you have to do it for to swallow up the cost of the move?

Well, my friend has just been out to Gosport to see his daughter swim the solent to Ryde.

He said it was pretty flat calm at 14.00 today. Where's the F5 we were expecting?

It just goes to show that you need to poke your nose out on the day and see what the conditions are.....

We went out for a little bimble this afternoon, poked our nose out.
A very strong current running out of Portsmouth harbour and causing a very confused sea just outside the harbour mouth but past that, I agree, lovely and flat.
We didn't go out far, only to see out of interest.
Went into gunwharf for a wonder and some dinner then headed back at dusk,
Chilly but made for a very nice afternoon.
