That depends entirely on what you want to do. If you're into day trips and water sports a cruiser is a poor choice.

I hear Pershing are really good boats. And with twin 300's that thing must go like stink too. As for my Volvo's I can smugly tell you that no, they are not converted truck engines but were designed specifically for marine use. (K) AD 4 series. Not that that makes them any better to my knowledge though. In fact it's a nuisance because there are no "cheap" truck spares I can find for them except on the common part peripherals.

I see Sealine mentioned. I think they made great boats with priority given to accommodation.
We started with a S23 with a single kad32 which we had for 6 years and did about 600 engine hours.
Then changed to a F33 with twin kad32's and have added another 300 hours over just over 2 years, but effectively 3 summer seasons.
I had a turbo issue on a kad32 which required repair and was probably related to lack of use by the previous owner.

I wouldn't have petrols . The main reason being there are very limited opportunities for fuelling with petrol in our area which is very restrictive if you want to go to sea.

To date I have paid for labour for servicing but costs with twin engines are pressing me to consider doing at least some of the work myself .
We skipped a size when we changed up. Don't dislike the S28 but it seemed not sufficiently big step up from a S23.
Finding a nice S28 may be a challenge.
The SC29 is very nice. I am river based so would not have the D3 engines which are unsuitable for extended slow speed running.
