Betty Sold

by betty boop » 22 Aug 2016, 12:17

Quiet bizarre but as we expected the market turned to confuse us all. Boats and Outboards gave me nothing of a sniff of a sale. Ebay was full of wasters and chancers until this weekend when a local buyer turned up on Sunday. Strangely they were old n retired but wanted a river boat for their end of garden moooring. Not a clue on what a bowrider did or how fast but £ is money. almost a sale but the 1 stumbling point for him was the Betty Boop name and graphic. I did convince him in the end it would come off no harm and they went away to think. May be the forum was right on the name & graphics

then I got an ebay message of another guy interested, usual stuff can you hold it im off on hols next week etc. but to my supprise he has turned out to be a nice guy 100% genuine, agreeed a £500 non refundable deposit, sold un seen and will pay my fuel to Dover to deliver next weekend. AND he loves the Betty Boop graphics as its forhis G/kids to learn to ski on out of Herne bay. What are the chances of that turn aroun late on a sunday night?

Deposit money is paid, invoice sent and Betty pulls out off the drive for the last time on the 2nd Sept, :( Im happy shes gone to a home but sad shes going, not just for owning 11 years from new (I'll never be able to afford another new one) but also the memories of the kids I dont have more and all the stupid things I tried to kill them doing  Funny how we get attached to machines with no sole or personality. May be I'll go back in time and sell the kids instead

A time of highs and lows selling a boat. Look ahead Ian, you have a replacement to put your heart and soul into and it sounds like Betty is going to a family that will have loads of fun with her. :D

Great news Betty, glad it worked out well. Know what you mean about sadness in selling! Like Colin says, lots of new memories to make with the new one!!

Well done on the sale and sounds like a good home for her. I think once we give a boat a name to us that also gives it/her some kind of soul

Well done, its nice to get everything tied up.

Just a word of caution for the last minute cash lower offer. You have taken it off the market, driven it to Dover for him so you (possibly in his mind) might not be prepared to take it all the way home. He might think he has you painted into a corner.

Thanks Martin I have thought of this and kept the ebay ad running but mark sold STC. My problem is face to face, I can be a bit of a push over when it comes to things like that, luckily Miss BB has 1/2 a day on drop off date and she wont let me drop on price, so she says but it will be morale support just in case, it has been known to get nasty but he sounded legit. :?

If its a non refundable £500 deposit, if he tries to knock you down, surely you just say no and drive off. You are £500 up less expenses! Or am I missing something? :?

The buyer then claims it is not as described. If through eBay then they take the money back from you without question. If not through eBay then he raises a small claim in court in the hope you will not fight it as these cases are hard to defend.

I am sure it will be fine by the way. I had someone buy a car unseen in a similar fashion.

He won't get anything through eBay. Unless the item is posted you have absolutely no protection from Paypal. My mate found that out the hard way.

Friday went as planned and not a hick up at all traffic jams excluded. We Paul at his home in deepest Kent and had a great few hours handing over Betty and explaining all the in's and out's of boat ownership that I could remember over a bottle of red wine. I know its only a machine in the end but it's great that after so many tyre kickers Betty has gone to someone genuinely excited about owning his first boat. It went so easily in fact I almost forgot he hadnt paid and I needed lots of cash transfered :o  :D We've even been invited back to go through some training and pass n some of that RNLI knowledge gathering dust in the grey matter.

Being a forum disciple I passed on word of the worlds most friendly boat forum, hopefully Paul will join us at some point in a few weeks, if he does remember 'I really AM a nice guy etc etc ' .......... ;) ;)

Annoyingly all weekend since I've had calls emails from other proper interested parties wanting to buy her - typical
